EPIDEMIC!
Fifth graders will begin the year with an exciting Higher Order and Critical Thinking Skills unit. We will explore handwashing techniques, become certified in the Georgia Adopt a Stream program, participate in a disease spreading simulation, etc. Students will work diligently each week to collect and analyze data in order to find a solution to a mystery disease. Great things await us during this first unit!
Our Essential Questions:
How do government organizations and individual citizens protect themselves from public health disasters?
What are viruses and bacteria and how do they affect humans?
How can a virus spread around the world?
How are symptoms used to make a diagnosis?
How can interviews with patients be analyzed and used to determine the cause of an outbreak?
How does the Bill of Rights protect personal rights and the common good?
